Pack Events

Pinewood Derby

The biggest and most popular event of the Cub Scout year is the annual Pinewood Derby, which is made up of a speed competition and a design competition.

Pinewood derby cars are small wooden models that Cub Scouts make with help from their families. Each Scout is given a model kit with all the parts to make their derby car. The car size, weight, and design must fall within the Pathway to Adventure Council Pinewood Derby rules.

Speed

Derby cars are powered by gravity and run down a special track. Each Scout races their car against other Scouts in their Pack in a super fun and exciting competition. First, second, and third place winners receive trophies and move on to compete in the District derby event, where bigger trophies can be won!

Design

Every Cub Scout can design and build their own unique car to enter in the design competition. The cars are judged by Scouts from Scouts BSA Troop 209 and the car with most votes wins. First, second, and third place winners receive trophies and move on to compete in the District derby event, where bigger trophies can be won!

Raingutter Regatta

The annual raingutter regatta is a boat race down a narrow channel made from a raingutter (or something similar). Each Scout is given a kit with all the parts to design and build their wind-powered boat. At a Pack meeting, two channels are setup where the boats are raced down. Every Scout is paired against another Scout and each blows their boat down the channel.

Fishing Derby

Scouts and their families are invited to attend this annual Pack activity. Bring a fishing pole to learn the fundamentals of fishing, have fun, enjoy fellowship, meet new friends, and eat lots of food. The day starts with a flag ceremony, followed by learning how to cast, baiting a hook, catching fish, and a contest for the biggest and smallest fish.

Pack 209 has an event every month that is fun, educational, and builds lifelong skills and friendships.
